With modern comfort in historical surroundings, Funken Lodge offers a unique Svalbard experience. The hotel is located on a hill in Longyearbyen, with magnificent views over town and the two glaciers Larsbreen and Longyearbreen. The cosy atmosphere creates a tranquil base to relax in after an intense day outdoors. You can find a snug spot in front of the open fire, and gain new inspiration from our library filled with polar literature. Enjoy a cocktail from Funken Bar and let your thoughts wander to polar adventures and expeditions. All of the rooms have a contemporary design, and our friendly staff will ensure you a perfect stay.
Join an exciting and more environmentally friendly boat trip with our new hybrid vessel MS Bard. This catamaran allows you the get close to nature, whilst enjoying the comfortable and modern design of the boat. Included in this package is a tour to the glacier Nordenskiöldbreen and the Russian ghost town Pyramiden.
Although the boat's new green technology is something for the future, visiting the town of Pyramiden is like entering a time machine and returning to the Soviet Union. In the 1980s, over 1,000 people lived in the city. It was a vivid community, with a school, kindergarten, swimming pool, sports fields and coal mining. In 1998, the Russian mining company Trust Arktikugol closed the coal mine, and the city was abandoned in a very short time. Today, you can find coffee cups that were left behind on the tables, open books in the classroom, and the sheet music lying ready on the piano - waiting for someone to play. Only a handful of people currently work and live in the city, and for visitors it is a very special experience to get a guided tour around the abandoned buildings.
Inspired by an international kitchen and high-quality ingredients, a great culinary experience awaits you at Funktionærmessen Restaurant. Here you have a fantastic view over Longyearbyen, while enjoying delicious food and drinks. The highly knowledgable staff will help you find the perfect drink that compliments your food.
