Meet Robert
Languages spoken: Swedish and English
Experience and background: Robert has been guiding in the Arctic since 2009, but his love for nature started long before that. Born and raised in Karlstad, Sweden, surrounded by forests, lakes, and rivers, he spent his childhood exploring the outdoors with his grandfather, who worked as a lumberman.
After earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from Karlstad University in 2001, Robert worked as a development engineer. But the call of the wild grew stronger, and eventually, he swapped his desk job for a career in the great outdoors.
In 2009, he became a certified wilderness guide through the Swedish Mountain Leader Organisation and began leading dog sled tours in northern Sweden. For many years, he also worked as a snowmobile guide at the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi. His passion for the Arctic and its wildlife has even taken him to the North Pole!
These days, Robert spends most of the winter in Svalbard, guiding snowmobile adventures for Hurtigruten Svalbard. Every year, he also returns to Jukkasjärvi to help build the new Icehotel for the upcoming season.
In summer, you’ll find him guiding expedition ships around Svalbard or back in Sweden working on his cabin, fishing, canoeing, brewing beer – or chilling out with some Ethiopian jazz.
