Wilderness Adventure With Snowmobile at the Juva Cabin
On this trip, we enjoy snowmobiling through the untouched wilderness of Svalbard. On the first day, we head towards Tempelfjorden to enjoy the historic area and the Tuna- and Von Post Glacier in the distance. On the second day, the destination is the east coast – one of the better locations to spot wildlife. Our accommodation for the night is the Juva Cabin, where we will enjoy “wilderness luxury”.
Juva Cabin, also known as ‘The Jewel’, is a gorgeous cabin with a capacity of 10 people. With a sitting room, kitchen, three bedrooms and a sauna, it provides a comfortable accommodation for small groups who are looking for an exclusive experience in the middle of the wilderness. It’s not unusual that the evening ends in the sauna, with a cold drink, overlooking the quiet landscape.
The cabin has a magical location between the two valleys Adventdalen and Eskerdalen. The views are gorgeous, looking towards mountains like Drønnbremassivet and Skolten (1128m), which is Nordenskiöldland’s highest peak.
We can tailor this trip and offer other accommodation than the Juva Cabin. Isfjord Radio or a tent camp are amongst the other possibilities. Contact us for more information.
Day 1
Before we leave town, your guide will give you a safety briefing, including information on how to drive a snowmobile. Then we leave Longyearbyen behind and drive towards the east. Approximately 30 kilometres outside town we find the Juva Cabin, our home for the night. After leaving our luggage, food and extra equipment we head further north, to explore the exciting mountainous areas between Adventfjorden and Tempelfjorden.
The goal of the day is Fredheim, situated at the shoreline of Tempelfjorden. Here we’ll find an old trapper cabin, Villa Fredheim, of the legendary trapper Hilmar Nøis. He did 38 overwinterings on Svalbard. There is a lot of mindblowing history around this man, and your guide will ensure that you get to hear most of it.
After a long day outside, full of incredible impressions, we will come home to our warm and cosy cabin. Here, great food and drinks await. You also have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor sauna, which the guide will heat up whenever you like. The sauna is tube-formed, with a circular glass window at one end, so you can enjoy the dark blue night over the white mountains.
Day 2
After a traditional cabin breakfast we make ourselves ready for a new day of adventures out in the wild.
Today we will head to the east, with the goal of making our way up onto the massive glacier plateaus and down towards the sea ice at the east coast of Spitsbergen. Here we will stop to enjoy a hot lunch, and to keep an eye out for the King of the Arctic – the polar bear – through our binoculars. If we are lucky, we may see one at a distance. Just remember that the trip itself is the goal, and to enjoy the gorgeous landscape that we drive through. On our way back we will stop by the cabin and pick up our luggage. Then we will drive back to Longyearbyen. The warm shower in town after this trip is a great reward!
