The Hurtigruten Svalbard ESG Report
Our ESG reporting provides an overview of how Hurtigruten Svalbard works with environmental, social and governance topics across our operations.
The reports bring together our initiatives, results and targets in areas including energy use, emissions, waste, our employees and the local community – helping us measure progress and identify where further improvements can be made.
What’s in the ESG Report?
Our ESG reports provide more detail on the measures we have introduced, the results we have recorded and the goals we have set for the years ahead.
These include reducing waste, monitoring emissions and resource use, increasing the use of electric vehicles in our operations, supporting local projects and developing our approach to quality and environmental management.

Ingeborg Flønes | Hurtigruten Svalbard: CEO
“Being situated in the world’s northernmost town and so close to wildlife, we see the impact of climate change first-hand. Our powerful yet fragile home gives us a unique opportunity to inspire people and harness the power of nature.”
Highlights from our work
Here are some examples of initiatives and results covered in our ESG reporting:

10 tons of trash cleared
Thanks to the Hurtigruten Foundation, over 10 tons of plastic waste and marine litter have been removed from Svalbard’s shores.

Harnessing the midnight sun
In 2023, we installed 650 solar panels on the rooftops of Radisson Blu and Polarsenteret. Combined with our existing installations, they now produce nearly 7% of our energy needs, around ,000 kWh of clean electricity!

Driving electric
Our logistics have gone greener with an electric Mercedes e-sprinter van charged with solar power. Plus, four electric minibuses now transport guests around Longyearbyen, powered by solar and wind energy.

Women in leadership
Women currently account for 43% of senior leadership roles within Hurtigruten Svalbard. We continue to monitor representation as part of our work with equality and inclusion.

Our people
Our ESG reporting also covers our approach to working conditions, employee development, health and safety, equality and inclusion. We monitor areas including workplace accidents, sick leave and training as part of our ongoing work to provide a safe and supportive workplace.

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified
Hurtigruten Svalbard holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications.
