Join us on a tour on Isfjorden with an open, steady Polarcirkel boat. This tour takes you on a journey through the fascinating history of Svalbard and Spitsbergen. After getting well dressed, we head out on the fjord. The guide will decide the exact route according to the weather conditions. We visit places with cultural monuments that may have history from both Norwegian and Soviet mining operations.

An eventful trip

From May to the end of July, the areas around the fjord are also bursting with birds that have migrated from all corners of the world. We will experience this vivid bird life either at the bird cliff Diabasodden or Fuglefjellet. With some luck, you may also spot some whales along the way. If we have time, and if the weather conditions allow it, we will go ashore in Hiorthamn. Here there was coal mining activity between 1917 - 1921. On this 3 hour long trip you get to see and learn a lot about Svalbard.

How to dress on a boat tour with a Polarcirkel boat

Even though it is summer, it can be cold on Svalbard. Especially when you are on a boat trip in an open polar circle boat. We lend floatation suit, life jackets and goggles to all guests, but we recommend that you dress well underneath.

We recommend:
• Warm shoes
• A thick wool sweater or thin down jacket
• Wool underwear
• Mittens / gloves
• Neck / buff
• Beanie

If you do not have warm shoes, we have a limited selection of boots for loan.

You can experience both rain and sea spray, so we recommend packing camera equipment well, and preferably in a waterproof dry bag. Hurtigruten Svalbard is not responsible for any damage that may occur to your personal equipment.

Included

  • Transport to and from accommodation place in Longyearbyen
  • Exposure suit for the duration of the tour
  • Warm drinks
  • Tour leader/captain with safety equipment
  • Search and rescue insurance

We do not recommend this tour if you are pregnant or have back problems
