Green Stay: A simple way to make a difference

We believe that embracing sustainability should be simple and effortless. That’s why we’ve introduced the Green Stay initiative at all three of our hotels—Coal Miners’ Cabins, Radisson Blu Polar Hotel, and Funken Lodge. It’s a small change with a big impact, and we’re inviting you to join us in protecting the Arctic’s fragile ecosystems while supporting our local community on Svalbard.

What is Green Stay?

The concept is simple: by opting out of daily room cleaning, you help us save water, and energy, and reduce the use of cleaning products. To make it even better, we’ll donate 5 NOK per room, per day to the Hurtigruten Foundation, supporting projects that protect the Arctic environment and empower the communities that call it home.

How does it work?

  • At Coal Miners’ Cabins, your room won’t be cleaned unless you request it. This proactive approach helps us save resources from the start.

  • At Radisson Blu Polar Hotel and Funken Lodge, just hang the Green Stay tag on your door if you don’t want your room cleaned.

Why is this important?

The Arctic is one of the most vulnerable regions on Earth, and it’s our privilege and responsibility to help preserve its beauty and biodiversity. By choosing a Green Stay, you’re contributing to sustainability efforts that protect Arctic wildlife, reduce pollution, and promote responsible tourism. Thank you for helping us make Svalbard a greener destination—one stay at a time. Together, we can create a positive impact that lasts far beyond your visit.

1. Green Stay

Opting out of room cleaning saves water, energy, and reduces the use of cleaning products. Plus, for every Green Stay night, we’ll donate 5 NOK to the Hurtigruten Foundation. At Coal Miners’ Cabins, your room won’t be cleaned unless you ask us to. At Radisson Blu Polar Hotel and Funken Lodge, hang the Green Stay tag on your door if you’d like to skip cleaning for the day.

2. Love your towel!

Who needs a fresh towel every day? Hang yours up to dry and reuse it! It saves water, energy, and cuts down on detergent use. Bonus: you’ll feel good about doing your bit for the planet while still enjoying a cosy stay.

3. Turn off the tap!

Fun fact: turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or shaving can save litres of water. It’s easy, quick, and you’ll be a water-saving superhero!

4. Lights off!

Heading out to explore? Don’t forget to flick the light switch on your way out. It’s a simple move that saves energy.

5. Unplug your chargers!

Your phone’s fully charged, but did you know your charger still sucks up energy even when it’s not in use? Unplug it and give the planet (and our energy bill) a break.
