The world’s northernmost full-service hotel awaits. Newly renovated, and with fantastic facilities, the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen is centrally located in Longyearbyen, between the award-winning Svalbard Museum and the main shopping area. The hotel boasts an excellent restaurant, with mouth-watering dishes from their Arctic Asian fusion kitchen, as well as the laid-back Barentz Gastropub with hearty meals in a relaxed setting with a broad selection of local and imported drinks. Guests can also enjoy the hotel’s sundeck, where you can enjoy the evening sun with a refreshing beverage.
The goal for the tour is Fredheim, the hunting base of the legendary trapper, Hilmar Nøis, who spent 38 winters on Svalbard. Many of the trappers cabins on Svalbard are of the simplest sort, but Villa Fredheim is an exception. With its flag pole, potted plants and curtains, this two storey villa was a palace in comparison to the other.
We will enjoy an expedition lunch out in the wilderness. Perhaps at the top of Fjordnibba, with views towards the mighty Tempelfjellet and the von Post Glacier in the Tempelfjord? If the winter has been long and cold, we may be able to drive in towards the glacier face, or park the snowmobiles by Fredheim. Safety is always the most important, but whichever route we take, the guide will share informative details on the environs and history of the area, and if we are lucky we may see some of the local wildlife.
Restaurant Nansen's menu is based on the Asian fusion concept. Here, we only use the best local produce and combine it with delicious Asian flavors. An amazing taste combination that must be experienced! The windows in the restaurant give you an extrodinary view towards the beautiful Hiortfjellet.
The food is top notch, but the atmosphere is informal, and you’re welcome to come in your snowmobile gear, straight from the wild.
