February can be summed up in one word - The Blue Hour. The end of the Polar Night combined with the white mountains and plains creates a fantastic blue light in the sky. The locals never tire of its glow, and visitors come from around the world to experience it. At the beginning of March rays from the sun will reach Longyearbyen for the first time since October. With modern comforts in historical surroundings, Funken lodge offers a unique Svalbard experience. The hotel is located in Haugen, with magnificent views over Longyearbyen, and up towards the Lars and Longyear Glaciers. The cosy atmosphere provides a tranquil base to relax in after an eventful day outdoors. You can find a snug spot in front of the fire, and gain new inspiration from our library filled with Polar literature. Or perhaps a cocktail from Funken Bar will give you a chance to reflect on polar adventures and expeditions? All of the rooms are handsomely furnished, and our friendly staff will ensure a perfect stay.
This tour covers a total of about 70 kilometres, and the goal for the tour is Elveneset, a phenomenal outlook point with views over the Tempelfjord and Tempelfjellet.
The landscape on the tour is varied, heading through valleys with soaring mountains on all sides, and at our turning point, Elveneset, we will take a nice break with warm drinks before setting a course back to town.
This is a great adventure also for those you haven’t driven a snowmobile before.
After the tour, you will be served hot toddy at Funken Bar, which you can enjoy in front of the fireplace while scrolling through photos from the magical adventure.
Inspired by an international kitchen, and the best produce, a great culinary experience awaits you at Funktionærmessen Restaurant.
At Funktionærmessen Restaurant you can enjoy the fantastic view over Longyearbyen, while being served food of the highest quality. The staff has great knowledge and will help you find the perfect drink that compliments the food you eat.
Our cellar boasts over 70 varieties of Champagne, making it possibly Norway’s largest selection. The collection includes a large range of producers, in addition to many quite exceptional bottles – including grand vintages not found anywhere else in Norway.
This is a historical dining place, which has always been connected with high quality. We are truly honored that the locals of Longyearbyen voted for us in the "Top of the town" competition as the Favourite of the year!
The trip up and down to the ice cave is by snowcat, a unique and fun vehicle which swings its way up and down over the moraine.
A frozen world appears as you make your way down into the ice cave. Stuck in the ice you can see 1000 year old remnants of frozen plants, fantastic ice formations, narrow passages and big caverns. Welcome to an underworld hidden to all who haven’t made their way into the deep.
After the ice cave we will make a stop to take photos from the viewpoint over Longyearbyen, and you will be served a hot blackcurrant toddy and a biscuit or two.
